What is Coaching?
Coaching is also commonly called “talk therapy.” Virtually everyone can benefit from working with a skilled and experienced coach. These 45 minute, one-on-one sessions focus on your specific needs and goals and help you build and strengthen the skills needed to move through life’s ups and downs with greater ease.
Mental Health and Wellness Coaching
Mental health and wellness coaching is a type of support system for those who want to improve their mental health and well-being. Coaching for mental health typically includes a variety of tools and systems such as cognitive, behavioral and motivational approaches. Life coaching will assist you in identifying your SMART goals
, hold you accountable and provide encouragement to reach your desired results and your full potential. Not being held accountable to someone, or something, is a reason many people are not successful in attaining their goals.
In terms of goals, most of us know what we need to do, but don’t take the action necessary to follow through. We make up excuses, the biggest barrier to our progress, that we are not smart enough, brave enough, strong enough, etc. In reality, you are enough and you are whole. You have everything within you to accomplish your dreams and follow through on your vision. It is not your capabilities that hold you back, but the limiting beliefs that block you from even trying.
Together we will identify and overcome those barriers to create the life you truly desire. Coaches at Horseshoe Healthcare take a holistic approach, which means we focus on your whole person: your physical, emotional and behavioral health. We will devise a custom plan of action to help you achieve the outcomes that you want.
Please note that coaching differs from therapy, in that therapy is oriented to the past and present, while coaching is oriented to the present and the future. Coaching is not an alternative to therapy and does not intend to treat or cure mental illnesses. Coaching works well in combination with our Nurse Practitioners and medication management.
When should I seek coaching?
There’s no bad time to begin working with a coach, but you should avoid waiting until your condition reaches a level where it impacts your day-to-day life. Long gone are the days when mental health care was viewed as a sign of weakness; people from all walks of life and all levels of function now build coaching into their overall health and wellness routines.
Pay close attention to the messages your brain and body send. If you begin to experience sleep disruptions, feel lethargic or unmotivated or struggle with frequent anxiety, coaching can help, even if your work with a coach is brief.
Some people work with a coach even when there are no current areas of concern. Coaching offers a safe setting for you to work on interpersonal skills, decision-making skills and resilience.
